This research and capacity building programme examines the role of food safety, social, labour and environmental standards in trade of agro-food products, with particular focus on the impacts of these standards on developing country producers and exporters.

FAO resource centre on Good Agricultural Practices [4]

Since 2003, FAO has been carrying out a series of studies, expert consultations and country activities related to GAP, focusing on information provision, technical assistance and capacity building to help developing countries cope with changing and globalizing food systems and the proliferation of GAP standards

ISEAL [5]

The International Social and Environmental Accreditation and Labelling Alliance. ISEAL members are international leaders in voluntary standard-setting and conformity assessment. ISEAL members set standards in sectors ranging from forestry and agriculture to fisheries, manufacturing and textiles.

Kenya Horticultural Development Program [6]

KHDP is a USAID-funded project to increase incomes through smallholder production and employment in the horticulture industry. KHDP works with public and private sector agencies to provide technical and marketing assistance to growers throughout Kenya. KHDP's main agribusiness partners include grower associations, input suppliers, processors, exporters, research institutions and trade associations.

PFID-Fruits and Vegetables (F&V) [7]

The Partnerships for Food Industry Development-Fruits and Vegetables (PFID-F&V) project collaborates with public and private partners to increase the competitiveness of small and medium scale producers in local, regional, and international markets, led by Michigan State University.

PIP [8]

Set up by the European Union at the request of the ACP Group of States, the Pesticides Initiative Programme, implemented by COLEACP [9], has two overriding objectives: 

• to enable ACP companies to comply with European food safety and traceability requirements; 
• and to consolidate the position of small-scale producers in the ACP horticultural export sector

Standards and Trade Development Facility [10]

The Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) is a global programme in capacity building and technical assistance to assist developing countries in trade and SPS measures established by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), the World Bank, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO).
