Final submission from the Food Industry Sustainability Strategy Champions Group on Ethical Trade
UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), May 2007
The DEFRA Food Industry Sustainability Strategy (FISS) was launched by the Secretary of State in April 2006. In summer 2006 the Champions' Group on Ethical Trading was set up to further develop the thinking outlined in the ethical trading chapter.
Recommendations include the scope of "sustainable sourcing", what a sustainable food supply chain should look like, a statement that the UK government must not over rely on certification and labelling schemes as the Key Performance Indices (KPI) for success, and calls for Government, food industry and Consumer action.
